Reading Notes: Cupid and Psyche, Part B

The Wedding Feast translated into English by Tony Kline (2013)
  • In this part of the story, Cupid has described his woes to Jupiter and convinced him of his and Psyche's love.
  • Jupiter makes an announcement to the deities, saying how they should support Cupid's love of Psyche. He also convinces his daughter, Venus, to accept the marriage regardless of the titles because he will make it a marriage of equals.
  • Thus, Psyche was brought to heaven and was given some ambrosia to make her forever immortal, so she could live the rest of her days with Cupid.
  • As a result, there was a grand wedding for the two with all the gods present to share this happy occasion.
  • Later, Cupid and Psyche had a daughter named Pleasure.

The plot of this part is very sweet. Even though Venus is extremely against her son's marriage, she is forced to respect it after Jupiter convinced him. At this part, we see the nice ending to Psyche's story, especially after all the hard tasks Venus had assigned. I would love to still use this plot, but maybe dialing it down to mortals. Instead of making the female character immortal, I could make it so that she is a duchess or princess before marriage. The plot could still be the same except for the fact that the male (Cupid) is from a rich royal family.
